Results of My Bowl Predictions

Categories:Between Sundays, Football

In December, I blogged about my predictions on certain bowl games. Now before you see the results, understand two things:

  • People who serve as analysts did worse than I did, so don’t be too hard on me.
  • I wanted to be a football coach and have been a student and fan of the game for years, and still did terrible!

From the 18 games I picked, I only got 10 of those games correct! That is awful! Terrible! Which games really surprised me? I was surprised that Virginia Tech defeated Tennessee. I just felt like the Volunteers were powerful enough to deal with them, yet some say Virginia Tech will be a Top 5 team next year. I am surprised that LSU lost to Penn State, even though I know LSU is not at its best right now. Well, perhaps the SEC is not as dominant as people imagine. I was really surprised Ohio State defeated Oregon. I really thought Oregon was unstoppable, but congratulations to Ohio State for a great game. Now I was disappointed for TCU, that they lost to Boise State. At the same time, let me be clear: I am not sure Texas or Alabama would want to play the Boise State team that played the other night. What a team, what a defense and phenomenal offensive scheme. If there was a true playoff system of just the top four teams, I would not be surprised at all if Boise State won the four-team tournament.

Now to address the game: Alabama defeated Texas.
More than anything, I regret deeply that Colt McCoy played only one series and hopefully he will be healthy. I love watching both teams play when I can and could be an avid fan for them. Yet I am a Texas fan unless they play the Razorbacks. I grew up 90 miles from Austin and went to a few games growing up. How would the game have gone if Colt McCoy had been healthy? We will never know. Congrats to all of my preacher buddies and church members who are Alabama fans. You deserved it this night.

Therefore, the next time you hear me preach, I will be more accurate than a .555%. Why? Simply put, I preach the Bible. When I preach the Bible, the Bible is always rights. Hey, the only time we are really right, we are on the side of God and His Word.

Yours for making sorry bowl predictions . . . more to come.

Football Bowl Predictions

Categories:Between Sundays, Football

Each year I take a little “blog time” to talk about the really important things of life – college football bowl games. Now, I am an avid college football fan and a major supporter of a football playoff system that leads to an “on the field champion.” However, this has not happened yet, so let me focus on some of the bowl games. I will not address all of them because there are way too many bowl games anyway.

Here are the games I will highlight and my football bowl predictions:

Meineke Bowl: Pittsburgh over North Carolina

Pittsburgh had Cincinnati defeated, but lost it at the end. Now they will prove their value in this bowl game.

Emerald Bowl: USC over Boston College

Even though USC does not want to be in this level of a bowl game, they will not let themselves be embarrassed any longer.

Music City Bowl: Clemson over Kentucky
C.J. Spiller, need I say more?

Independence Bowl: Georgia over Texas A&M
It is hard to believe Georgia has not earned a more prestigious bowl game with its level of talent, but this is where they are and they will defeat Texas A&M.

Holiday Bowl: Nebraska over Arizona
While this will seem like a home game for Arizona, I just believe Nebraska’s defense is too strong for Arizona.

Armed Forces Bowl: Houston over Air Force
Air ball will defeat ground ball this time. Houston is a dangerous team!

Sun Bowl: Stanford over Oklahoma

Oklahoma will not perform well in this bowl game tier. They are used to playing for much more. However, this year, Stanford may also be a better team than Oklahoma.

Chick-fil-A Bowl: Tennessee over Virginia Tech

Tennessee played really well at times this year. Their defense will win this game.

Outback Bowl: Auburn over Northwestern

Why Auburn? One word: Malzahn!

Capital One Bowl: LSU over Penn State
I just cannot see the SEC lose to the Big 10.

Gator Bowl: Florida State over West Virginia
The Seminoles will show up strong in the last game of Bobby Bowden. What a sad day at Florida State.

Rose Bowl: Oregon over Ohio State
Are you kidding me? The Ducks are quacking this year and the Buck-eyes, well they are the Buck-eyes.

PapaJohns.com Bowl: South Carolina over Connecticut
I believe in Steve Spurrier.

Liberty Bowl: Arkansas over East Carolina
The Hogs are way too strong offensively for East Carolina.

Alamo Bowl: Texas Tech over Michigan State
Texas Tech will roll!

Fiesta Bowl: TCU over Boise State

Defense will win this ballgame. The bigger issue is why in the world did they not give these two teams the opportunity to prove their value against bigger schools? I think we know. None of them wanted to lose to them. These are two great programs with two great coaches.

Orange Bowl: Iowa over Georgia Tech
My soul, I would not call this an exciting match up at all except for these two schools.

BCS Championship Game: Texas over Alabama
I love watching these two teams. These schools have two of the greatest coaches of all time. The defense of Alabama is outstanding. There is no way that Alabama’s offense can play to the level they did in the SEC Championship game. There is no way the Texas offensive line will be embarrassed again nationally as they were against Nebraska. Colt McCoy should have won the Heisman and he will play the lights out! Yes, Texas will upset Alabama and the Tower in Austin, Texas will be lit on the late night of January 7th.

We will evaluate my predictions in January and see how I did. See you Sunday!

What A Schedule!

Categories:Between Sundays, Christmas, Football

This past weekend was a challenging schedule for me. With our Shiloh Football Team playing in Little Rock, we drove to Little Rock and enjoyed our time there.  What did we enjoy the most?   Winning the state championship 56-20. Congratulations to our Shiloh team, both coaches and players.

Since the game was an evening game, we got home on Sunday morning about 1:20 a.m. and got to sleep about 2:00 a.m. The challenge from there was getting up the next morning.  While we had a Christmas music presentation on Sunday morning at Springdale, I preached at our Pinnacle Hills location.

Following that, I rushed home, ate a quick bite, and prepared to return for two more Christmas musical presentations at our Springdale location.
The Lord provided me the strength to move through the day and the entire weekend.  Thanks Lord!

I am grateful for the wonderful Christmas presentation of our Springdale Choir and Orchestra under the leadership of Kim Noblitt and Chris Emert.
Thanks to all of you for a wonderful, worshipful presentation.  I am most grateful to each of you, believe in you, and love you.  There is no time of the year like Christmas!

What a schedule!

Shiloh is Playing for Football State Championship

Categories:Between Sundays, Football

The Shiloh Football Team is playing for the 4A State Championship on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas. The joy of our private school is to be able to compete in all sports with public schools. In Arkansas there is not a private and a public league, but one league where they compete against one another. We are most grateful for this opportunity.

Shiloh will be competing in the State Championship Game for the 4th year in a row. Three years ago we won the championship game, two years ago we lost it in overtime, and last year we won the state championship. It is a privilege to play for the state championship a 4th year in a row. We are grateful for our administration, coaching staff, and team. Their commitment of training champions for Christ is a blessed opportunity.

If you cannot come to Little Rock to support our team, please listen on the radio live on FM 99.5 or watch the game on the Internet at www.shilohsaints.org. Again, kick-off is at 6:30 p.m. Pray for our coaching staff and team. I realize that many of our people have their children in other schools in our region and we love to support them when given the privilege. In fact, we recognized on Sunday morning the Har-Ber High School team for winning the state championship last Saturday in their classification.

Finally, I will be here on Sunday morning and look forward to a great day in the Lord. I hope you are present at one of our four morning services and also attend one of our afternoon or evening special Christmas programs on our Springdale campus.

Have a blessed weekend and we will see you Sunday.
