GCR Rumors

Categories:Between Sundays

The rumor mill concerning the work of Great Commission Resurgence Task Force is somewhat humorous. While our work is progressing, I stand amazed at how people are reaching conclusions about matters we have not even addressed. I have been listening to various things being said and quoted as said, plus reading matters that are completely premature and some may be downright untruthful. This entire rumor mill concerning the GCR and SBC issues is of major concern.

The heart of our problem is a lack of trust.
The culture of distrust has existed for many years, but seems to be growing in a harmful manner over the past five years. What is amazing is that even if we don’t know one another, conclusions are sometimes being drawn from someone’s opinion or “what one has heard.” Seldom is truth or the character of those being discussed even considered.

What is really amazing is that each pastor, staff member, and denominational employee is at times the subject of discussion, all based off of conjecture, not actual truth. When these things are said about any of us who serve in these roles, we are disgusted and at times even become angry. Yet, at times, the very thing we detest others doing to us, we do to our own brothers and sisters in Christ who we are in the foxhole with us in a ferocious battle against Satan and his forces.

Listen friends, we are in a war against Satan and his powers of darkness, not against one another.
We are fighting major forces on this Great Commission Resurgence Task Force. We are trying to do what we have been commissioned to do – work together towards faithfully and effectively fulfilling the Great Commission. This kind of a serious commitment as a group and what we made as a denomination in our annual meeting (with an overwhelming 95% vote commissioning this task force), will result in major spiritual warfare. Satan is King of the rumor mill, Master of Lies, and the Deceiver of truth. Satan will do all he can to create distrust among the people of God and all of us need to be sharp enough spiritually that we can recognize it for what it is. He will not just lie down and go away as we advance the gospel globally.

Brothers and sisters, we are in this fight together. We are on mission with God to extend the gospel to our regions, our states, our country, and to the nations of the world. Let’s not get sidetracked by opinions and feelings, but stay focused on the Great Commission. This is one of the most exciting moments in the history of our denomination. We should all be on our faces before God and waiting on the edge of our chairs for an exciting vision about how we can better extend the gospel to the entire world. I promise you that my emotions are challenged daily by our work. Yet, when I have time to reflect, I reach the following conclusion:

We are living in one of the greatest moments in all of history and we have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something great with God in advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ to the unreached people groups in America and across the world. Does this not excite you? Is this not a great moment?

Yes, this is a God moment for all of us and we are praying for the Lord to be exalted in all the nations.
