Yesterday afternoon I boarded a plane and arrived in time to speak at the great Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, for Dr. Jerry Falwell. This church just moved into a new 6,000 seat worship center last year and according to all reports is exploding. God is rewarding the faithfulness of His leader, Jerry Falwell. I shared the Word of God with those people last night, and then had dinner with a close friend of Dr. Falwell’s, Duke Westover. Duke has served Dr. Falwell for many, many years just taking care of the details of his life. Thank God for men like Duke. He just loves his Pastor and takes care of all of his basic needs relating to schedule and details.
This morning I speak at 10:00 EST at the Liberty University Convocation Service. This amazing university, now at just under 10,000 students on campus here in Lynchburg, has transformed so much in the past few years. Not only it is exploding in students, but it is a testimony to the vision of a leader, the commitment to the Great Commission, the giving of God’s people, and the contagious spirit of these students. Following my engagement there, I will have lunch with Dr. Jerry Falwell. This is always a privilege and I count it as such for me and our church to be engaged with such a dynamic university. Following my time with Dr. Falwell, I will tape a one-hour television show with his son, Jonathan. When that is completed, I am in meetings with some major Christian leaders concerning reaching North America,
followed by dinner with all of our church’s students who attend Liberty University and there are many of them.
On Tuesday morning, I will attend our board meeting, as I am on the Board of Trustees for Liberty University. This group of 36 men and women comes from all over the country and consists of some of America’s most dynamic Christian leaders, including Tim and Beverly LaHaye. It is alway energizing. As Chairman of the Committee for the Liberty Theological Seminary, I work closely with Dr. Ergun Caner. He is a scholar and a great man of God. There are few places in this
world that ignite my vision; however, every time I come here, my vision is expanded greatly. This entire work is such a powerful testimony to the power of Jesus Christ.
Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. I board a plane to come home. I have been on a short run the past 10 days, with preaching on Sundays, carrying on details of our ministry, attending two board meetings which I serve as a trustee to both, and engaged heavily in matters of life. God is good and I am grateful for these opportunities, but I always have in my heart …
There is no place like home.
